About Rachel Gaarkeuken

Rachel Gaarkeuken was  a daughter of Marcus Gaarkeuken and Rosalina Schoenlapper. She was born in Haarlem but lived in Amsterdam at Michelangelostraat 30 III, in 1941 at Rijnstraat 74 II toghether with her mother and sister Margaretha, who survived the Shoah. Since May 1943 was her last address Afrikanerplein 51 I where she has resided only a few weeks: 4 June 1943 she was killed in Sobibor. Rachel Gaarkeuken was unmarried. Her father Marcus deceased already in 1926.

According her registration card of the Jewish Council it appeared that she was exempted from deportation because of function. ("gesperrt"). She was Aid HAV (Aid For Departing People) at Lekstraat in Amsterdam since 14 August 1942. Her former job was sales-lady and she had a finished schooleducation but no diploma. 29 Mei 1943 she was sent to Camp Westerbork and stayed in barack 58. 1 June she was deported to Sobibor where she was immediately killed upon arrival there 4 June 1943.
