Biography

About Abraham IJer and family.

Abraham IJer was a son of Jacob Abraham IJer and Saartje Hangjas. 7 October 1896 he married in Rotterdam Kaatje Stad, a daughter of Mozes Stad and Elizabeth de Roode. The couple had four children, namely Saartje, Elisabeth, Israël Jacob and Rijntje. All of them and their families have been killed in the Shoah.

Abraham’s wife Kaatje Stad however, passed away 10 September 1935 in Rotterdam and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery Toepad in Rotterdam.

Abraham’s father, Jacob Abraham IJer, married 14 August 1867 in Amsterdam Saartje Hangjas. His father  was aged then 43 years and widower of Schoontje Hartog Sluijter. However, he passed away before 1880 and his mother Saartje Hangjas remarried at age 45 in Amsterdam 10 November 1886 the 41-year old Israël Schaap from Lienden.

From the 1st marriage of his mother his sister Judith was born  in Haarlem 15 December 1878 and 20 March 1881 he had a half-sister, born in Amsterdam named Rachel Sara. However, of both his sisters nothing is further known.

Abraham IJer lived with his mother and stepfather in Capelle a.d. Ijssel and per May 1890 in Kralingen. In 1893 they left Kralingen for Haarlem but two years later, Abraham lived again in Kralingen and moved to Rotterdam, where he married 7 October 1896 Kaatje Stad.

After having lived at many addresses in Rotterdam, the Abrahm IJer family stayed since December 1934 at Josephstraat 34b and moved 9 December 1935 to Haringvliet 40. After the passing of his wife Kaatje, Abraham IJer lived at Havensteeg 5 in 1937, in August 1940 at Josephstraat 48c and his last known address was per 18 November 1940 Zwaanshals 352b.

Abraham IJer deceased in Rotterdam 10 July 1941 and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery Toepad in Rotterdam
