About Barend Wurms

Barend Wurms was a son of Leendert Wurms and Henriette de Hond and has been deported 25 August 1942 from Mechelen to Auschwitz with Convoy V. The 5th Convoy is as follows described in the Memorial of de deportation of the Belgian Jews: this transport includes 995 persons, among them 232 children. Registration and listing for this transport commenced 16 August with persons, who were arrested that night in Antwerp and who were not deported with the 4th Convoy of 15 August. The 5th Convoy arrived in Auschwitz 27 August and upon arrival 780 deportees were immediately gassed. 215 persons were registered in the camp of whom only 26 are alive at 8 May 1945.

The date of death for Barend Wurms as registered 1 January 1942 therefore may considered as wrong. His exact date of death is unknown. His younger brother Jozeph has survived the Shoah.
