Martha Muller, born 30 April 1890 in Amsterdam, was the 4th child of Abraham Jakob Muller and Rebecca Zippora Coltof. She married 8 August 1917 in Amsterdam Hartog Jozef de Lange from Elburg, a son of Machiel Aäron de Lange and Helena Cracau. The couple had three children, namely Helena Manuella in 1919, Rebecca Zippora in 1920 and Manuel in 1925. Only Helena Manuella survived the Holocaust, all other members of the family were killed in the Shoah.
Martha was the 4th child of her parents. She had five siblings, of whom Elisabeth survived the war; Louis left Amsterdam for the U.S.A. where he was registered for draft 5 June 1917, he was married and had a child; her brother George lost his life in Theresienstadt; Salomon Israël and Frederika Henriette were killed in Sobibor.
Martha’s husband was exempted from deportation “because of function”. (gesperrt). Therefore Martha too was exempted from deportation until further notice. Her husband, Hartog Jozef was employed as administrator and “chef de bureau” at N.I.H.S. (Nederlands Israëlitsche Hoofd Synagoge – Dutch Israëlitic Main Synagogue) at Houtmarkt 10 (now named Jonas Daniël Meijerplein) in Amsterdam. But 26 May 1943 she and her husband were deported to Westerbork were they had to stay in barack 57. 1 June they were put on transport to Sobibor and on arrival there 4 June 1943, they were immediately killed.
