Biography

About Jacob Mok and his wife Gesina Englander.

Jacob Mok was a son of Salomon Mok and Mietje Katwijk.10 September 1941 he married Gesina Englander from Alkmaar in Amsterdam, a daughter of Gompert Englander and Femmetje Keesje. 7 September 1942 the couple had a son Salomon, who survived the Shoah.

In 1923, Jacob Mok was dealer in woolen articles. 1 December 1922 he reveived his vendor permit from the municipality of Amsterdam and attended the street market “over het IJ” on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. In November 1928 Jacob Mok moved to Rotterdam, obtained a so-called “harbor permit” from the municipality to wield his trade and lived at Schilderssteeg, St. Jacobsstraat 23b and per 2 July 1931 at the address Veerlaan 14c in Rotterdam. 1 October 1934 Jacob left for Den Haag where he stayed only one month and returned to Amsterdam, where he went living at Eerste Oosterparkstraat 127, stayed afterwards still at some other addresses till he arrived in 1938 at Beukenweg 11 1st floor where the Gompert Englander family lived. 

After having lived from August 1940 at Christiaan de Wetstraat 16 3rd floor, Jacob Mok married Gesina Englander 10 September 1941 and together they went living at the address Vechtstraat 3 3rd floor. There in September 1942 their son Salomon was born. Still two removals followed: 9 October 1942 to Cillierstraat 27 3rd floor and 13 April 1943 to Retiefstraat 29 1st floor, were previously has lived the Meijer van Bever family.

In the night of 10/11 June 1943, Jacob Mok and his wife were carried off to concentration camp Vught. They stayed there till they were deported to Auschwitz via Westerbork on 21 September 1943. This transport included 979 deportees, among them 300 persons from camp Vught. On arrival there 24 September 1943, Jacob Mok and his wife Gesina Englander were immediately killed.
