According to some older inhabitants of Balkbrug, who have known Miena Leman well, she was a very smart and progressive type with a great creative talent. In the beginning of the thirties, Miena Leman taught in stencilling, batik and brocade-painting, spraying-batik, reliëf- and pencil painting and stable-fixing, as shown in an advertisement in the Dedemsvaartse Courant of 12 April 1930.
Of orange wool, Miena Leman made roses, which were worn on Queen's Day (August 31). These homemade roses were sold by her for a few cents and the proceeds were paid by Miena to a fund that promoted the interests of the Jews persecuted in Germany.
