Jacob Hartog, son of Simon Hartog and Saartje Abraham Meijer, was born 3 October 1869 in Woudrichem into a family with 7 children, namely Jansje, Abraham, Leentje, Jozeph, Levie, Elisabeth and Jacob self. Only Jozeph survived the war - he died in 1949. Levie and Elisabeth died respectively in 1917 and 1913 but Jansje, Abraham, Leentje and Jacob self have died during the Holocaust.
Jacob moved 28 Juni 1922 from Rotterdam to Nobelstraat 28 in Utrecht. Hij was a shop-keeper there. In Utrecht he married on 10 August 1922 at the age of 43 the 32-year old non-Jewish Aloijsia Josepha Fontijn from Ossendrecht, a daughter of Johannes Baptist Fredericus Fontijn and Johanna Catharina Schroeijers. Jacob Hartog passed away at the age of 61 in Utrecht on 21 June 1940.
