Biography

About the death of Berta Slomovits.

According the registration card of the Jewish Council, Berta Slomovits should have been deported from Westerbork to “the East” on 18 September 1942. This transport arrived in Auschwitz 20 September 1942.

Strange is that on the registration card from the file cabinet of the Jewish Council of Berta Slomovits a note was made which read: “Repatriation to Romania according list Expo 24 Aug 1943”. If this is correct, Berta Slomovits never could have been deported 18 September 1942; she could have died in Romania or perhaps still deported to a concentration camp and died there or even might have  survived the war in Romania.

Because no official death documents are available and it seems that in Den Haag after the war no death certificate has been drawn up by the Dutch Ministry of Justice for Berta Slomovits, the date and place of death are unknown. However, evidently, it appears from other sources that Berta Slomovits died in Auschwitz on 21 September 1942.
