Machiel Gobes, merchant, born 7 July 1876 in Amsterdam, was a son of Salomon Gobes and Grietje Content. He married Regina Fraenkel on 16 Febuary 1911 in Zaandam, a daughter of David Fraenkel and Elisabeth Cohen. The couple had three children, namely Greta Henriëtte in 1912, Elisabeth Selma in 1914 and Emilie Jeannette in 1916. Only Elisabeth Selma survived the Holocaust, however she passed away after the war already on 16 April 1946. All other family members were killed in the Shoah.
Their three daughters were married; Elisabeth Selma in 1937; Greta Henriëtte and Emilie Jeannette in 1942. Elisabeth Selma survived the Shoah. She was born 31 March 1914 in Amsterdam and married on 5 Februray 1937 in De Bilt (Utrecht) the sales man and painter Albert Prins, who was born in 1915 in Hilversum. In 1937 and 1940 they had two children, who also have survived the war. The marriage of Elisabeth and Albert however did not last and ended in a divorce on 11 February 1942.
After their marriage, which has been closed in Zaandam in 1911, Machiel Gobes and his wife Regina resided in Marnixsttaat 370 1st floor in Amsterdam. When his brother Nathan has become a widower in 1936, he moved 17 May 1940 to live in with his brother Machiel in Marnixstraat 370 1st floor, until he could move after one week to the 2nd floor there. Nathan Gobes has been killed in Sobibor on 2 April 1943.
On 15 April 1943, Machiel and Regina were taken from their residence to Westerbork, where the ended up in barrack 62. On 27 April they were put on transport to Sobibor and on arrival there on 30 April 1943, they were immediately killed.
