Biography

About Isaac Ossedrijver.

Isaac Ossedrijver, born 16 January 1892 in Amsterdam, was a son of Hartog Ossedrijver and Henriette Broekman. Isaac was diamond sawyer by profession and he was unmarried.

Isaac was born into a family with seven children, namely Jacob (1890), Abraham (1893), Grietje (1895), Marcus (1897), Flora (1900), Margaretha (1901) and Isaac himself (1892). Of his siblings Grietje and Flora have already died as babies. All others sibs were killed in the Shoah. Isaac’s parents, Hartog Ossedrijver and Henriette Broekman, passed still before the war; his father died 3 December 1939 but his mother already on 4 February 1903 at the age of 36 years.

Isaac Ossedrijver lived at Transvaalstraat 116 in Amsterdam-East but moved 2 April 1938 to the Schalk Burgerstrata 34 parterre, where he lived in with Mr. and Mrs Gerrit de Jong. Isaac has been deported from there to Westerbork on 30 July 1942 and put on transport to Auschwitz on 30 July 1942.

This transport, with in total 560 deportees, stopped however at Kozel, which is located ±80 km west from Auschwitz. There 200 boys and men between 15 and 50 years of age were forced to leave the train to be employed as forced labourers in the surrounding satellite camps of Auschwitz. Those who remained on the train were transported onwards to Auschwitz to be killed there.

It is very likely that also Isaac Ossdrijver belonged to the Group of 200 men who had to leave the train in Kozel. Not known however is in which work camp Isaac ended up and it is also not known on which date exactly and where he has died. Therefore the Dutch Ministry of Justice ordered the City of Amsterdam to draw up a certificate of death for Isaac Ossedrijver, in which was established that Isaac Ossedrijver passed on 31 March 1944 in Mid-Europe.
