Elias Agstteribbe, known as Eli, born on 29 April 1902 in Amsterdam, wholesaler by profession, was a son of Liepman Agstteribbe and Sara Schaap. Elias was unmarried and lived at home at Plantage Kerklaan 4 I in Amsterdam. His parents already lived there shortly after their marriage in 1898 and his mother continued to live there, even when she became a widow in 1924. Besides Elias, his unmarried sister Jenny Clara also lived at home. His aunt Clara (Kaatje Schaap) lived on the second floor and his other aunt Antje Schaap lived at house number 6 I.
Elias Agstteribbe was among the first to be “employed in Germany”. He arrived in Westerbork on 24 July 1942 and was deported to Auschwitz on 31 July. This transport consisted of 1007 deportees and arrived in Auschwitz on 2 or 3 August 1942.
Elias then was 40 years of age and on arriva apparently fount “healthy enough” to work. He was selected to do forced labor inside of outside the camp. When and where exactly Elias Agstteribbe lost his life is unknown. For this reason, afte the war, the Dutch Authorities ordered the municipality of Amsterdam to draw up a certificate of death for Elias Agstteribbe, in which the place and date of his death were established as in Auschwitz on 30 September 1942
