Sophia van Gelder, born 21 July 1918 in Lochem, was a daughter of Abraham van Gelder and Rachel Frank. She was unmarried and worked as a servant maid. Already from 1919, Sophia came with her parents living in Amsterdam, where they resided at various addresses, in 1936 in Tilanusstraat 37 3rd floor, in 1939 in 2e Boerhaavestraat 62 3rd floor but in the same year again in Tilanusstraat 83 3rd floor. On 7 March 1941 she was registered at the address Voltaplein 30 parterre, where she came living in with her brother Simon Andries van Gelder and sister-in-law Eva de Leeuw.
The family of her brother was already taken to Westerbork on 19 July 1942 , from where they on 24 July were deported to Auschwitz. Her sister-in-law Eva and her daughter Rachel were on arrival there on 26 July 1942 immedilately killed; her brother Simon Andries as a forced laborer held out until he collapsed and died on 29 September 1942 in Auschwitz.
Sophia self was registered 15 September 1942 in Westerbork and already on 18 September put on transport to Auschwitz. There on arrival on 21 September 1942, she was immediately killed..
