Jacob Stodel was born on 20 March 1872 in Amsterdam as a son of Joseph Stodel and Betje Metz. He was a diamond worker by profession and married on 26 May 1897 Elisabeth van Stratum in Zaandam, a daughter of Lion van Stratum and Alida Pije. The couple had four children, namely Alida in 1901, Josephine in 1906 (who only lived to be four days old) and the twin Leo and Joseph in 1908, of whom Joseph died 3 weeks after his birth.
After their wedding day, Jacob and Elisabeth moved into a house in the Lepelstraat 92 2nd floor in Amsterdam, where their first child Alida was born. About 1903, they moved to Ruyschstraat 76 3rd floor, where they have resided till 2 December 1936. Then they moved to Vrolikstraat 461 1st floor. On 2 August 1939 however Elisabeth van Stratum passed away there; she was interred in the Jewish Cemetery at Muiderberg.
A few weeks later after the passing of his wife, Jacob moved into the family of his daugher Alida who was married already in 1925 to Jacob Presser, who lived whith their two children at Oosterpark 3 2nd floor in Amsterdam. On 8 November 1942 Jacob was registered in Westerbork and deported to Auschwitz on 10 November. On arrival on 13 November 1942 Jacob Stodel was immediately killed in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
