About Nathan Stibbe.

Nathan Stibbe, born on 23 July 1879 in London, was a son of Samuel Stibbe and Marianne Schaapwol. In his younger years, he worked as a servant, latere he earned his money as a manufacturer and merchant. On 28 December 1902 he married in Peine (Germany) the 26-year old Bella Israel. She was born in Lehrte, located near Hannover in Germany, on 20 July 1876 as a daughter of Salomon Israel and Phanni Kron.

Certain is, that the couple Stibbe-Israel had one daughter, born 19 August 1906 in Amsterdam, named Marianna, after her grandmother Marianne Schaapwol. She married in Amsterdam on 16 May 1935 the managing clerk Nico Gazan, who was born on 29 October 1905 in Gouda as a son of Anthonij Izaak Gazan and Adella Mogendorff. Nico and his wife Marianna lived in whith his parents-in-law at Lekstraat 74 1st floor in Amsterdam-South. As far as has been researched, Nico and Marianna have survived the Holocaust but further, nothing is known about them.

Bella Stibbe Israel passed away in Amsterdam on 7 February 1941 and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen. According to the camp registration card of her husband Nathan Stibbe from Camp Amersfoort, Nathan and other Jews were arrested in May 1943 and sent to Amersfoort on 18 May 1943, where he stayed till 11 June. Then he was transferred from Amersfoort to Westerbork, where he ended up in barrack 57. Nathan Stibbe stayed in Westerbork till 1 February 1944. That date he was put on transport to Bergen Belsen, where eventually he lost his life there on 9 June 1944.
