Biography

About Rosa Michel and her husband Max Meijer.

Rosa Michel was the 10th in the family of eleven children of Friedrich Michel and Lena Reiwit. She was born on 8 September 1901 in Amsterdam and worked as an office clerk in later years. On 13 September 1923 she married Max Meijer, a son of Behr Eisich Meijer and Hene Ite Olswang. Max was born on 2 May 1902 in Amsterdam and he was a lawyer by profession.

Their son Robbert was born on 31 July 1931. But the marriage of Rosa and Max did not last and on 26 July 1936, they divorced in Amsterdam. A month later, on 26 August 1936, Max Meijer married Martha Borkowski in London, who was born in Berlin on 3 May 1907 as a daughter of Gottlieb Borkowski and Marianna Sturma. However, this marriage was dissolved too on 6 February 1937 in The Hague.

After the divorce of his parents, Robbert Meijer came under the care of his mother in 1936. He was 5 years old at the time and they lived at Roemer Visscherstraat 20 in Amsterdam. But on 25 October 1939, both left for New York where they spent the war years. Max Meijer also left for New York on 10 October 1939 and he also spent the war years there.

Rosa and Max must have met again in New York, because on 16 April 1942 they married again there. Max returned briefly to Amsterdam on 7 December 1945, but left again for New York on 2 April 1946. Rosa and her son Robbert returned to Amsterdam on 4 June 1946, where they found accommodation at Van Eeghenstraat 103, 1st floor, but in September 1946 mother and son moved again, now to the Prins Hendriklaan 1 hs.

Robbert married in 1952, lived on the Prins Hendriklaan until 1964, moved to the Titiaanstraat in 1965, had four children with his wife and died in Amsterdam on 10 November 1977. His mother, Rosa Meijer Michel left on 15 October 1947 to New York. More is not known about Rosa and Max.
