Sarah Levie was born in Hamburg on January 14, 1880 as the first daughter of Tanchum (Theodor) Levie from Groningen and Hannah Ricardo Rocamora from Hamburg. Sarah was an English teacher and taught at the Berlitz school at Keizersgracht 300 in Amsterdam. Her sister was Lea and she had three brothers, Jon, Iwan and Abraham.
