Lea Weijel-Aptroot

A memorial in Brummen commemorates the Jewish victims of this town. More information on this memorial can be found (in Dutch) on the website of the Nationaal Comité 4 en 5 mei.

Lea is een dochter van Jonas Aptroot en Duifje Wijnberg. Ze trouwde 18 mei 1910 met Bernard Weijel (33 jaar, koopman van beroep), zoon van Abraham Weijel en Johanna Zilversmit.

Bernard Weijel married Lea Aptroot on 18 May 1910 in Enschede. The only child of the couple was Jonas. The family lived on the Kalanderstraat in Enschede, where they owned a delicatessen. During the Depression they went out of business. They moved to the Patmos neighbourhood, where they opened a shop selling sweets and lottery tickets.
