Isaak Bauernfreund lived with the family of one of his children. In 1942 he died by natural cause. The family went into hiding and survived the war.

Isaak Bauernfreund died on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) 1942 in the Jewish hospital of Apeldoorn. He was buried at the Jewish cemetery at Arnhem.
