Renee Johanna Polak-Hirsch studeerde van 1910 tot 1921 aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Zij promoveerde op 18 mei 1921 tot doctor in de letteren en wijsbegeerte op het proefschrift "Doodenrituelen in de Nederlanden vóór 1700". Zij was werkzaam als lerares talen.
