David Mouwes was a son of Simon Mouwes and Elisabeth Tertaas. He married 6 November 1935 in Amsterdam Henrica Turfkruier, a daughter of Meijer Turfkruier and Regina Hangjas. The couple had two children.
David had a brother Mozes, who still was unmarried and lived at home with his parents.
