Joël Vogel was a son of Levie Vogel and Keetje Jacob Vleeschhouwer. He married Rebecca van Weren, daughter of Levie van Weren and Saartje Roeper, in Amsterdam on 7 May 1913. The couple had three children: Louis, who died already as a baby and two daughters Catharina and Celine, who both have survived the Holocaust.
