The family Israel moved to Amsterdam in the beginning of the thirties together with their son and his wife Sophie Israel-Kopf. The son survived the war. The family lived in the Stadionweg.

After Margarethe and her husband Heinrich Schönmann fled to Belgium, her parents Victor Israel and his wife Hedwig Israel Haase followed. They were deported from Malines/ Mechelen in June 1943. They didn't survive. Margrethe and her husband went underground. Heinrich took his life after they were betrayed. Margarthe survived as did her brother. He returned to Amsterdam in summer 1945.
