In 1936 Ernst Fried and Leonie Steinhauer came to the Netherlands.
The same year Ernst Fried founded the "Weense Modekunst", on Keizersgracht 120 in Amsterdam. This was a workshop for leatherware (belts for example). Before the end of 1937 both Ernst and his spouse had retired as partners in the firm. Ernst became a partner at Lax & Co in 1940.
