Register lists

Lijsten van - volgens de nazi-definitie - joodse inwoners in Nederlandse gemeenten

The compulsory registration procedure involved completing a registration form. The basic data required were first and last names, date and place of birth, address, last residence in the Third Reich, nationality, religious affiliation, occupation and marital status. Additional data served to classify people as full, half or quarter Jews, based on whether they belonged to a Jewish religious community, had a Jewish spouse, and how many Jewish grandparents they had.
In February 1942 the municipal authorities of North Holland and Zeeland were instructed to compile new lists (presumably in connection with the required transfer of Jews to Amsterdam). The municipal authorities of South Holland received the same instructions in May 1942 and the other provinces in June 1942. Not all registration lists remain. Most lists are at the NIOD, in the archive of the Zentralstelle für Jüdische Auswanderung.
