Abraham Levi was a soldier in the Royal Dutch 'Prinses Irene' Brigade. He fought for the liberation of the Netherlands. In October 1944 he died in the vicinity of Brussels. At the war cemetery Evere at Brussels is a memorial stone in memory of Abraham Levi.

Pictured from left to right are Greta Mendels-Levi (who survived the war in England), Dora Mendels-Spangenthal (who survived the war in an attic in Holland), Maurits Mendels and Rebecca Rosa Meibergen Mendels (who both perished), Siegfried Mendels (who immigrated to Palestine in the 1930s) and Trees (Theresa) Mendels (who was murdered in Sobibor).
