Gerda was a German refugee. She arrived in the Netherlands on December 13th, 1938. First she stayed in the Rivierenhuis in de Steeg, from where he was transferred to the Achterklooster in Rotterdam.Then she was moved to Amsterdam, where she stayed at the Burgerweeshuis and Oostelijke Handelskade 12, but at the end of May 1940 she moved in with her grandparents.
Her mother was Erna Abraham, born in 1901 in Essen, her father was Alfred, born in 1890 in Duhren. Both parents perished in Minsk. Her father was an was-invalid.
Gerda was taken to Auschwitz on July 15th, 1942. According to her death certificate she died on August 19th, of "Akuter Magen- und Darmkatarrh". (information from her Red Cross file, number 147.537).
The family wanted to move to the US, they had an affidavit.
