Jacob Levie was a merchant and a casual worker. He was married to Judik de Jong. They had four children: Debora, Julius Jakob (known as Juultje), Samuel and Floratiene. The family lived at 74 Viaductstraat in Ter Apel. Sippora de Jong-Levenson, Judik's mother, lived with them.
The family lived in poverty in their humble dwelling. In the summertime the children went to school barefoot. Jacob Levie worked for the employment programmes and traded a bit. People remember Jacob Levie for his red hair.
Jacob Levie surrendered a bicycle in Ter Apel.
