Izak Stern and his family

Izak Stern was married to Rijntje de Leeuw. The couple had two children: Samson Mozes (1911) and Klara (1913). Izak Stern had a theatre/concert-hall at Eerste Hoofdstraat 40 in Meppel, where he gave dancing lessons. In front of the dancing hall he had a porcelain and pottery shop. He also sold these goods at the market.
In May 1941 the dancing hall was closed down and Izak Stern sold the premises on Eerste Hoofdstraat. He invested the money in a house he planned to build on Oranjelaan, for which he obtained planning permission.
Klara was married to Hijman Cohen. She continued to live with her parents after her marriage. In July 1942 Izak Stern was forced to go to Orvelte labour camp. On 3 October he was taken from there to Westerbork transit camp, where he saw his wife and daughter again, who had been taken from their home that same day.
