Philippus Zaligman was a son of Salomon Zaligman and Martha Wijnberg. His mother died in 1899; his father remarried in 1907, to Henderjetta Wijnberg, a sister of his first wife. Salomon Zaligman, Philippus Zaligman's half brother, was born from this second marriage.
Philippus Zaligman married Heintje Wilda. The couple had three children: Levie Salomon, Hendrika and a child that survived the war. The family lived in Diever, where Philippus ran a textile shop. In 1936 he and his half brother Salomon in Meppel purchased a second shop: De Horizon at 34, 1ste Hoofdstraat. In 1936 the family moved to the same address. In 1940 they moved to an elegant mansion at 7 Noordeinde.
Philippus was summoned to the labour camp in Orvelte on 19 July 1942. Two days later he boarded a bus to Orvelte with twenty others who suffered the same fate. In the night of 2 to 3 October all Jewish labour camps were evacuated, and the Jews were transferred to Westerbork. On 3 October Philippus‘ wife Heintje and their daughter Hendrika were taken to Westerbork as well.
His son Levie Salomon was summoned to the labour camp in Linde on 17 August 1942. From there he was taken to Westerbork the next day and deported from there to Schöppenitz.
