Jacob David de Leeuw was a son of David Jacob de Leeuw and Rosette Baroche Hamburger. He had four other brothers: Joseph, Emanuel, Abraham and Alexander Louis.
Jacob David married on 10 July 1902 to Klaartje Pruijm, from whom he divorced on 2 January 1913. With her he had two sons: Benjamin and David Jacob.
He married again on 29 April 1914 in Amsterdam to Marianne Cohen, who passed away on 5 November 1924.
David Jacob married the third time on 28 May 1931 to Sophia van Collem, daughter of Jacob van Collem and Elisabeth Dikker.
