In August 1943 two members of the Kolonne Henneicke raided the apartment at 57 Waalstraat, second floor, in Amsterdam where they had been tipped off that seven people were hiding. In the kitchen they found Esther van Amerongen-Polak in hiding. She kept the two talking long enough for the other six people hiding there to escape. The two members of the Kolonne Henneicke discovered seven used toothbrushes and stood guard outside the house. They caught one 72-year old woman in hiding (known only by her cover name Wagener), when she returned to fetch something that evening.
