Barend Borstel was a son of Isaac Borstel and Rebekka Elkan Reimer. He married 30 January 1902 to Leentje van Collem, a daughter of David van Collem and Rachel Olivier. Leentje however passed awayh on 20 May 1930 and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen.
From this marriage, a daughter was born: Rebecca, who was married to Levie Vos.She has surivived the Holocaust.
After the death of Leentje, Barend Borstel married the 2nd time to her sister Jetje van Collem on 26 August 1931 in Amsterdam.
