Maurits Barnstein was a son of Meijer Barnstein and Grietje Kooker, a family with eleven children, among them he himself, Betje, Hartog, Engeltje, Esther, Eva and Mina. Jetta, who was married to Hartog Zwalf, has survived the Holocaust as the only one of the children. Three children has already died at a very your age.
Maurits married in Amsterdam on 13 January 1932 to Cato de Hond, daughter of Levie de Hond and Judic de Hond.
