Philip van de Kar was a son of David van de Kar and Heintje Schraal, who both have died already before the war. Philip married 3 December 1919 in Amsterdam to Rika Rodrigues Garcia, a daughter of Elias Rodrigues Garcia and Rachel Leeda.
Philip was born in a family with eleven children, of whom two have died before the war. However his siblings Marianne, Salomon, Clara, Gompert, Coenraad, Grietje, Sara, and Levie have been killed all during the Holocaust.
