Paul Lassally was a Lutheran baptised Jew from Hamburg. He also let his children be baptised. He worked in a succesful family firm, Lasally and son, dealing in coffee. Later the Lasallys also did in banking. At the end of 1938 Paul Lassally moved with his family to Amsterdam, where there also was a branch of the company located. At that time he already had cancer and was terminally ill. After the invasion of Germany he made plans to flee, but he already was too ill to make that a feasible option. He and his family got a delay from deportation because of their religion. He died as a consequence of his illness.
