Walter Süskind was married. The couple had one child. The family lived in Amsterdam. Walter Süskind was in charge of the reception in the Hollandsche Schouwburg on behalf of the Jewish Council. He headed a group that helped Jews to go into hiding from the Schouwburg. He mainly did this by smuggling children out of the Hollandsche Schouwburg and to let them go into hiding via a nursery situated across the street from there. For that purpose, he tampered with the card-index system in the Hollandsche Schouwburg.
He was caught on 23 September 1943 in Amsterdam and was transported to Westerbork on 29 September. On 4 September 1944 he was deported to Theresienstadt with his family. From there, the family was sent to Auschwitz.
