Sara Barber was a daughter of Manus Barber and Flora van Velzen. She married 6 August 1930 in Amsterdam Coenraad Knegje, a son of Levie Knegje and Roosje Flesschedrager. The couple had three children, of whom the first born died in 1933, only one-and-half year old. The other two children, Karel and Levie have been killed in Auschwitz, together with their mother.
Sara Barber was born in a family of elven children; one brother died at young age and one sister survived the war. Her other siblings, Meijer, Judic, Sientje, Elisabeth, Marianne, Salomon, Frederika and Isaac have been killed all during the Holocaust.
