Emanuel Zwaab was a son of Philip Elias Zwaab and Reintje Verdoner. He was born in a family with five other siblings, who have passed away all before the war. Emanuel married 26 September 1883 in Amsterdam to Duijfje Komkommer, a daughter of Hartog Komkommer and Branke Achttienribbe.
Emanuel and Duifje had seven children together of whom one was stillborn, one sone died only 3 months of age, another died 6 months old but the other children: Reintje, Philip, Joel and Hartog did not survive the Holocaust.
Duijfje Komkommer however passed away in Amsterdam on 14 April 1916 and Emanuel Zwaab married again in Zaandam on 2 January 1918 to the widow of Isaac Brilleslijper, Mietje Drukker, a daughter of Samuel Drukker and Hanna de Vries.
