Arthur Harpuder married in 1924 in Berlijn. He divorced in 1939. He came from Berlin to the Netherlands the same year, where he first lived in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Sluis before he went to Westerbork. In July 1942 he moved back to Amsterdam, until he went to Westerbork again in July/August 1943.

Arthur Harpuder is mentioned in a letter of 5 July 1942 in the correspondance in IISG (International Institute of Social History), Archive Jacob ter Meulen, inv. nr. 9.
In the letter it is mentioned that Arthur Harpuder had to stay in Westerbork, contrary to a rather large group op protestant Jewish refugees.
