Mozes (Maurits) Bachrach had gone into hiding in the vicinity of Raalte, using the false name of Hendrik Bakker. During the 'Sallandse razzia' of 14 October 1944 he was shot dead when he crossed a pasture during his flight. According to an eyewitness he still stood up three times after being shot.
Maurits was buried in the pasture by the farmer he had gone into hiding with. Approximately a week later he was reburied in Raalte. After being reburied again on the same cemetery he finally was given a spot on the war cemetery in Loenen in the summer of 2006. For the three deadly victims of the 'Sallandse razzia' two erratic boulders were placed in Raalte, where they are remembered every year on 14 October.
