Leentje Nunes Nabarro (also known as Lea) was the daughter of Salomon Nunes Nabarro, and sister to the artists Aron and Mozes Nunes Nabarro. She herself is said to have been a reasonably accomplished ballet dancer as a youngster.
Leentje Nunes Nabarro sent a telegram from the Hollandsche Schouwburg on 8 April 1943. Lea Nunes Nabarro lived at 199 Weteringschans in Amsterdam. In the telegram she asked her next-door neighbour Mrs. Pannekeet at 197 Weteringschans, fourth floor, to rescue her cat by opening the attic window. This telegram remains.
