Debora Emmerich (also knwon as Nora) was married to Max Funke. The couple lived on the same address as Max' sister. Nora and Max Funke had come from Germany to the Netherlands after the Kristallnacht in 1938. During this ‘night’ Debora Funke was thrown from the stairs and one of her legs was hurt so badly that it had to get amputated. In the Netherlands they tried to get a visum to emigrate to America, but their efforts were useless.
In America lived a child of them.
