Israel was a son of Salomon Blom and Hendrika Kosman, who had a family with ten children: Israel himself, Hartog, Elisabeth, Duifje, Nathan, Rachel, Samuel, Barend, Machiel and Greta, who survived the Holocaust.
Israel married in Amsterdam on 5 November 1919 to Marianne van Velzen, daughter of Salomon van Velzen and Grietje Cosman.
