Mietje Wolff (also known as Mary) was hiding in hotel Gottschalk in Zaltbommel during the war. She stayed there under the pseudonym of Coba Coby Jansen. When German troops raided the hotel on July 8, 1944, Mietje Wolff was mortally wounded. The owner of the hotel, Mr. H. A. van der Laak, was also killed. Three other Jews in hiding were arrested and deported to Westerbork. Mietje Wolff was initially buried in the General Cemetery at the Bossche Poort in Zaltbommel as "unknown female person". After the war she was reburied as "baptism pupil'' on the roman catholic cemetery.

During her stay in Hotel Gottschalk Mary Wolff had her hair bleached, and walked around in the open and helped serving clients of the hotel. She had fallen in love with the son of the house. When the hotel was under attack, she was shot at the counter. USC Shoah Foundation, USC-SF No. 13131. (Interview Alexander Hes)
