Engeltje Barnstein was a daughter of Meijer Barnstein and Grietje Kooker, a family with eleven children, among them she herself, Betje, Hartog, Esther, Eva, Mina, and Maurits. Jetta, who was married to Hartog Zwalf, has survived the Holocaust as the only one of the children. Three children has already died at a very your age.
Engeltje married Louis Kooker in Amsterdam on 7 July 1921, a son of Meijer Kooker and Mietje Pais. The couple had four children toghether, all killed in the Holocaust.
Since 12 October 1939, Louis Kooker lived apart from his wife at another address in Amsterdam: Bilderdijkkade 88 III-back of the house.
