In August 1941, two obituaries were placed in Het Joodsche Weekblad for Marcus Cats. He was a minister at the Jewish Community of Enschede and Knight in the Order of Oranje Nassau. He was the widower of Suzanne Ketellapper.
In the same edition of the weekly, a short message said about the minister of the Jewish Community in Enschede: 'He has helped the Jewish Community to thrive and he was loved for the work he did within and outside the Jewish Community'. Cats was a religious education teacher for over fifty years.
