About Simon Moses

Simon Moses was married to Trientje Hoogstraal. The couple had two children. Trientje Hoogstraal died in 1925. Simon Moses got remarried. In this marriage one child was born. The second wife of Simon Moses and his three children survived the war. The two children of his first marriage also survived the war.

Simon Moses went into hiding during the war but was arrested on the evening of Yom Kippur 1943. When he listened to a broadcast of Radio Oranje via the BBC, there was a knock on the door. When his host asked who was there, the answer was "Grüne Polizei....Aufmachen". Simon Moses tried to flee through the backyard and over a fence but was stopped by neighbours. He was handed over to the police who handed him over to the German authorities. Simon Moses ended up in Scheveningen in the so-called Oranjehotel. After two days of interogation, Simon Moses was transfered to Westerbork.
