Philip Tertaas was a son of Mozes Tertaas and Rachel Leeda. He married 15 June 1921 in Amsterdam Klaartje Polak, a daughter of Meijer Polak and Mietje Vischjager. The couple had two daughters: Wilhelmina, who got married 9 December 1942 and Rebecca, who was still unmarried.
Philip was born in a family with seven children. Two of them survived the war. His other siblings, Elisabeth, Hartog and Gidion, have been killed all in the Shoah.
