In August 1941, an obituary was placed in Het Joodsche Weekblad for Abraham Joseph Asscher. The same edition of the weekly published an obituary. In it, Abraham Joseph Asscher is described as an amiable, patriarchal figure. He had been a church trustee of the Rapenburgerstraat-synagogue in Amsterdam, manager of Talmud Torah and host of Hougei Das (an association for Torah study, which he had helped to set up).
