Isaäc Vuijsje joined the Hollandia-Kattenburg textile factory in Amsterdam on 8 April 1937. As a precautionary measure for difficult times, he bought ten small cut diamonds from his relative Max Sijes, a diamond cutter, and had them inserted in his dentures.
On Wednesday, 11 November 1942, around 4:30 PM, Willy Lages conducted the Sicherheitspolizei raid on the Hollandia factories. All exits were blocked and the Jewish staff members were taken away that evening. After a short stay in Scheveningen Prison, Isaäc Vuijstje was sent on to Westerbork. Despite his mixed marriage, he was deported to Auschwitz on the Kattenburg transport.
At the time of his deportation to Auschwitz, Isaäc Vuijsje had the cut diamonds in his dentures with him, a few items of gold jewellery including a valuable watch 'with a Big-Ben stroke', given to him by his father and bank notes sewn into the lining of his jacket.
The archive of the Stichting Sieraden-Comité contains a list of the stolen items of jewellery, a declaration under oath and a statement of the right to inheritance from 1966.
